Sequential Releases a Sequential Synth
Building upon the success of the PRO 1 and PRO 2 synthesizers, the standard Sequential PRO 3 Multi-Filter Mono/3-Voice Paraphonic Synthesizer is designed for studio recording and live performance applications.
The 3-octave synthesizer with velocity and aftertouch semi-weighted keyboard is referred to as a hybrid because it combines two analog oscillators, a wavetable oscillator, three classic filters, and a monophonic, 3-voice paraphonic architecture. With over 60 knobs and 70 buttons, the instrument is a breeze to program without intensive menu diving.
Three vintage-style filters cover the gamut of sonic textures. Filter 1 is a low-pass based on the Prophet 6, while filter 2 sports a classic low-pass ladder filter design with resonance compensation. Filter 3 is a classic state-variable OB-6 multimode that can be continuously varied between notch, low-pass, and high-pass with an optional band-pass mode. An additional drive control provides punch when you need that bit of extra mojo.
Onboard modulation capabilities include four loopable ADSR envelope generators, three syncable LFOs with slew and phase offset, a full-featured arpeggiator, and a 32-slot modulation matrix with over 46 mod sources and over 171 mod destinations. If that weren't enough, the 16-track sequencer with real-time and step inputs is a most powerful performance tool. Each track offers 16-steps and four phrases and is capable of ratcheting, variable gate and sequence lengths, multiple playback modes, and a paraphonic operation. In addition to notes, sequence tracks can control any parameter in the 171-destination modulation matrix.
The dual engine multi-effects processor offers stereo delay, BBD delay, chorus, flanger, phaser, ring-mod, vintage rotary speaker, distortion, high-pass filter, and super plate reverb. Additionally, the PRO 3 is equipped with a programmable analog distortion and tuned feedback with Grunge for extra-aggressive tonal destruction.
The rear panel offers four CV inputs, four CV outputs, and a gate output, which allows the PRO 3 to interface with modular synthesizers and other analog gear. Control voltages can be assigned and routed from within the modulation matrix and can be sequenced for inspirational performances. Control voltages can also run at audio rates for extreme modulation effects. Additional expression controls include a position-sensitive latchable touch slider and two backlit pitch and modulation wheels. The pitch wheel has independently adjustable upper and lower ranges for advanced programming and performances.
