The Seymour Duncan Phat Cat pickups look like humbuckers, but they're actually P-90 single-coil pickups. The tone is big and fat, giving single note runs the girth of a humbucker combined with the chiming clarity of a single-coil pickup. Phat Cats use Alnico 2 magnets for increased sustain and softer attack. And if you're concerned about single-coil noise, the metal covers provide more shielding than standard soapbar covers offer.
The ESP LTD Xtone PS-1000's electronics offer practically unlimited sonic exploration. You have individual volume and tone controls for each pickup, plus three-way switching. This time-tested arrangement is perfect when you want to dial back the tone on your bridge pickup while leaving the neck pickup wide open, or roll it back on the neck pickup for warm jazz tones. You can leave the pickup selector in the middle position, and use the volume controls to find your ideal blend of neck and bridge pickups.
